Everything you wanted to know about implants

In time, as we age, our teeth are affected by many issues, from cavities, to paradontitis, so that many are faced with the loss of a tooth, or teeth. Fortunately, it is possible to replace one or more teeth.

Titanium implants are most often recommended. They are artificial roots that present a replacement for our natural roots.

Under certain conditions, artificial titanium roots have the possibility of growing into the surrounding bone tissue of the jaw, which make them strong and resistant. These conditions include a good general condition of the mouth and an adequate amount of bone tissue in the jaw for it to be installed. However, even if these conditions aren’t met, in the condition of a poor jawbone, the jawbone tissue can be replaced with bone tissue from some other bone, or with an artificial bone replacement. A crown is then placed on such a root, and we have a “new” tooth.

The success of implants and the duration of them depend on the above-mentioned conditions (condition of the mouth, jawbone), so good oral hygiene is of the utmost importance.

The advantage of these procedures is the replacement of the teeth without reshaping the neighbouring teeth, of course partial or full dentures can be replaced by bridges that are attached to the implant.

Although such a procedure allows for the best replacement of a lost tooth, it is important to emphasise that it requires not so insignificant material funds. Here we could also emphasise the role of prevention and adequate dental care before problems that could cost us arise.
