Dental hypersensitivity (overly sensitive teeth) is a condition where the tooth reacts to external influences, such as cold, heat, sweet or sour tastes, or for example, the touch of a toothbrush, with intensive pain. Cause: the basic causes of dental hypersensitivity are the receding of gums due to age, irregular brushing and inadequate oral hygiene…As gums age, they tend to separate from the teeth, which exposes the dentin (the internal and sensitive part of the tooth) and the root of the tooth. The nerve endings in the pulp react to external influences such as cold or hot, sweet or sour, or for example, the touch of a toothbrush. The most important issue with dental hypersensitivity is that the patient neglects basic oral hygiene because of the pain. In time, that can lead to significantly more serious problems such as cavities and gingivitis.
